Residents can take advantage of savings on average of 24 percent.
Greene County has launched a new program to help county residents deal with the high cost of prescription medications. Through a partnership with the National Association of Counties (NACo), the free Prescription Discount Card program provides area residents with a card that is saving consumers across the country an average of 24 percent off the retail price of prescription medications.
The card has many benefits. It is easy to get one and can be used by those who do not have insurance or by those who have prescriptions not covered by insurance. The card can also be used to save money on some pet medications. It is accepted at 65,000 pharmacies nationwide including all the major chains like Wal-Mart, CVS/Pharmacy, Walgreens, Giant, Safeway, and Rite Aid.
The participating pharmacies also include the majority of community-based, independent pharmacies. This card offers both insured and uninsured residents significant savings on prescription medications. The free discount cards may be used by all Greene County residents, regardless of age, income or existing health coverage. Prescription Discount Cards are available at most major pharmacies. The discount cards can also be printed from the Internet at www.nacorx.org. Residents can also locate the nearest participating pharmacy from the same website or call toll-free at 1.877.321.2652 for assistance with the program. Our ultimate goal is to help counties and their residents, and efforts like this offer them an important service.
Greene County will be joining counties across the country currently offering the NACo Prescription Discount Card program to residents. Since the program’s inception in 2005, participating counties have saved their residents millions on the cost of their prescriptions.
The program is administered by CVS Caremark.
Cards are available at the Greene County Administrator’s Office, 40 Celt Road, Stanardsville, VA 22973, or at your local retailer. For more information, contact the County Administrator’s Office at (434) 985-5201.
