Vacancies on Boards/Commission - October, 2018

The Greene County Board of Supervisors invites individuals interested in improving the quality of life in Greene County to participate as a member of a County board, commission, or committee.  Vacancies are advertised at various times throughout the year, and opportunities are available now to serve on various citizen member organizations. 


Equalization Board - Members of this 3-member board are commendation by the Board of Supervisors and appointed by the Circuit Court.  All members must be residents of Greene County and at least one (1) member shall be commercial or residential real estate appraisers or other real estate professionals, builders, developers or legal or financial professionals.  The Board shall hear complaints that real property is assessed at more than fair market value; shall hear and give consideration o such complaints; shall adjust and equalize such assessments and shall consider all applications by property owners or lessees for relief following the general reassessment of real estate.  The Board sits an average of two to four days per session.  Training is required.


Piedmont Workforce Network Board - PWN has the central role of providing leadership and direction on local strategic workforce issues, identifying local needs and developing strategies to address those needs.  PWN has a total of 34 member and includes Counties of Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange, Rappahannock, Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson and the City of Charlottesville.  The Piedmont Workforce Network is responsible for the oversight and administration of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act’s (WIOA) Adult, Dislocated Worker and Youth programs in the central Virginia region.  These programs are designed to help job seekers access employment, education, training, and support services to succeed in the labor market and to match employers with the skilled workers they need to compete in the global economy.  The Board meets on a quarterly basis at 3:00 p.m.  For additional information, please visit:   or  


Planning Commission – The Planning Commission consists of five members who are appointed by the Board of Supervisors for 4-year terms.   The Commission serves in an advisory capacity to the governing body on matters of planning and zoning by preparing and recommending plans and ordinances and reviewing development proposals. Their tasks include review of and recommendation on rezoning and special use permit applications, plan review and development, and ordinance review and development.  The Planning Commission is responsible for preparing and recommending a capital outlay program.   Members must be residents of Greene County and qualified by knowledge and experience to make decisions on questions of community growth and development.  Professional Planning Commissioner training is provided. Meetings are held the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room at the County Administration Building.


Skyline CAP - Skyline Community Action Partnership is a private, non-profit, 501c3 organization and serves Greene, Madison, Page, Rappahannock, Shenandoah and Page Counties. Their purpose is to advance the general welfare and conditions of low income, elderly low income, elderly and/or disadvantaged persons by providing programs and services that shall promote, develop and encourage activities and means to improve housing, educational and literacy needs.   Skyline CAP’s work is concentrated in three primary areas:  education, affordable housing and housing stability.  Skyline CAP meets the fourth Monday of the month from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  (not including July and December).   Additional information is available online at:
