Effective Immediately – March 18, 2020
The Greene County Treasurer’s office will be closing our office to walk in traffic beginning today, March 18 through April 3, 2020. We do this out of an abundance of caution for our citizens and my team. Our goal is to do our part to help prevent the spread of the Coronavirus in our community while continuing to serve.
We are here and will be working in full force. We are available to answer phone calls, provide balances, accept payments and answer questions. Payments can continue to be made online, by phone, mail and drop box. We are available to assist with your needs. Please call us at 434-985-1456 or 434-985-5214 from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The Greene County Treasurer is a constitutional officer as set forth in the Constitution of Virginia, who is elected by the citizens of Greene County.
Responsibilities of the Treasurer are to collect and record all tax revenues and local fees, to represent Greene County in banking matters, and to manage the investments of County funds.

Can you make adjustments to the taxes I owe?No, only the Commissioner of Revenue’s office can make adjustments to the taxes you owe. Please resolve any assessment or adjustment questions before making your payment.

Do I owe personal property tax for property I've sold?
Greene County is NOT a prorating locality. If the property was owned on January 1st of the tax year, then tax is due for the entire year. Conversely, you are not taxed on personal property that you purchased during the tax year. Further questions should be directed to the Commissioner of Revenue.
